QUEZON CITY, Feb. 10 (PIA)–Preparations for the first-ever Metro Manila Summer Film Festival have begun Friday, February 7, with an ocular inspection of the proposed route for the Parade of Stars.
The Parade of Stars for the MMFF Summer edition will take place in Quezon City on April 5, Palm Sunday, according to MMFF Executive Director Atty. Rochelle Ona.
The parade will start from Welcome Rotonda-Quezon Avenue and end at Quezon Memorial Circle.
The Parade Committee, chaired by Michael Salalima, Chief of Staff of the Office of the General Manager and Vice Chair Neomie Recio, also inspected the parade grounds with Tetta Tirona, Quezon City Tourism Head; and Dexter Cerdenas, Traffic Head; and other representatives from the local government.
The parade shall cover a distance of 6.2-kilometers and is expected to take a minimum two hours and 30 minutes.
“We are very excited for the first-ever MMSFF in April. This early, preparations for the Parade of Stars have begun to ensure that the event will be an exciting day for Filipino movie goers,” said MMDA and MMFF Chairman Danilo Lim.
Just like the regular MMFF during Christmas, the Parade of Stars is one of the highlights of the MMSFF that will showcase floats carrying celebrities of the film festival’s official entries.
Meanwhile, the MMSFF will officially open on April 11, Black Saturday, where eight-full length films will be shown exclusively in theaters nationwide for an eleven-day period.
The holding of the first MMSFF was proposed by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, a member of the MMFF Executive Committee, to encourage the film industry to create more quality films.
According to cinema exhibitors, historically, Black Saturday or Sabado de Gloria is the second highest grossing playdate next to Christmas. (MMDA/PIA-NCR)
