DAVAO CITY, Sept. 13 (PIA) – Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) which will run from September 13-19 will feature 10 Filipino full-length films that will be screened in cinemas across the country.
The PPP, now on its third year, is spearheaded by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) as its flagship program. This year’s PPP coincides with the 100th anniversary of the birth of Philippine cinema.
FDCP chairperson Liza Dino-Seguerra says the theme of the 2019 PPP is Pamilya, Pagkakaibigan at Pag-ibig (Family, Friendship and Love).
“As we celebrate 100 years of Philippine cinema, PPP wants to pay homage to the themes that gave life and inspiration to our filmmakers to create stories that mirrors our lives,” Dino-Seguerra said.
The ten full length films in the PPP include; Cuddle Weather (starring RK Bagatsing and Sue Ramirez), Watch Me Kill (starring Jean Garcia, Jay Manalo), Open (JC Santos, Arci Munoz), Circa (Anita Linda, Enchong Dee), Pagbalik (Suzette Ranillo, Gloria Sevilla), G! (Mccoy de Leon, Jameson Blake), Last Song Syndrome (Gabbi Garcia, Khalil Ramos), The Panti Sisters (Paolo Ballesteros, Martin del Rosario, Christian Bables), I’m Ellenya L. (Inigo Pascual, Mariz Racal), Lola Igna (Meryll Soriano, Maria Isabel Lopez).
“This is my first time to do an action film, pwede pa pala, wala palang imposible sa edad, kaya pa rin (It still can be done, there’s nothing impossible with age, I can still do it) says Watch Me Kill star Jean Garcia during her press conference in Davao City held last month.
Garcia who plays a female hired killer in the film underwent intensive training to prepare for the role.
“Open is not your typical love story, it’s about two lovers struggling in the middle of their relationship and for one of the characters, he finds that the only solution to save their waning relationship is to have sex with other people,” says actress Arci Munoz who plays one of the lead.
JC Santos, who plays one of the leads in “Open”, says the topic is somewhat like a taboo. “Hindi siya gaano pinaguusapan, di tayo open sa ganitong topic at hindi natin alam na meron pala ganito, (It’s rarely talked about, we are not open to this topic and many do not know that a relationship like this exists),” Santos said.
Santos and Munoz along with Garcia and a bevy of actors and actresses appearing in films featured in the 2019 Pista Pelikulang Pilipino, visited Davao City last August to promote the film festival.
Jean Garcia praised the efforts of the FDCP in having PPP. “It gives opportunities to us film workers by prioritizing Filipino films to show what we are capable of,” Garcia said.
The PPP according to Garcia also provides employment to many people working in the film industry.
The ten films of the PPP are the cream of the crop, chosen among the best with different flavors like drama, action, sex-comedy, teen flicks.
Garcia urged the public to watch and support the 10 films featured in the PPP. “Suportahan po natin ang Pelikulang Pilipino (Let us support Philippine cinema),” Garcia said. (PIA/RG Alama
